Hayden Teams Bring Home the Gold
Skating
teams from across the United States gathered in Colorado Springs, CO
last month to compete in the 2001 National Synchronized Skating Championships.
Five teams based out of Lexington, Ma with skaters from Lexington, Concord,
Acton, Sudbury, Framingham, Carlisle, Groton and other surrounding communities
traveled to Colorado to participate in this event. The Haydenettes captured
their 11th national title and gold medal in the senior division last
week. Synchro spectators packed the arena to watch as fourteen teams
competed for the national title. The audience cheered wildly as the
Haydenettes skated their way to yet another gold medal.
The
Haydenettes skated magnificently demonstrating their skill with perfect
circles and lines and earning two 6.0 perfect scores and three 5.9 scores
from the judges. This first place win gave The Haydenettes the ticket
to travel to Helsinki, Finland to compete in the 2001 World Synchronized
Skating Championship April 5 - 7. They will represent the United States
as Team USA1 and will compete against 20 teams from all over the world.
In February, the Haydenettes won a silver medal in the 2001 International
Spring Cup in Milan, Italy.
The
trip was a huge success for all five Hayden Synchro teams. The Ice Mates
reclaimed their national title earning a first place gold medal in the
novice division competing against twelve other teams from across the
United States. The Mates' performance was spectacular and the skaters
dazzled the crowd with their flawless splice and awesome splits on ice.
In February, the Ice Mates won a gold medal and the coveted French Cup
for the second year in a row while competing in the 2001 French Cup
in Rouen, France. The Ice Cubes took home a silver medal in the juvenile
division, missing a first place win by 1/10 of a point from a single
judge. The Cubes scored high marks and skated a clean, crisp program.
In January, the Ice Cubes won a silver medal competing in the 2001 International
Lake Placid Classic. Esprit de Corps - Adult and Esprit de Corps - Masters
each won a first place gold medal. For Esprit de Corps - Masters this
was a special thrill as the team competed nationally for the first time
ever. Competition was tough amongst the thirteen teams in the Masters
Division. The competition was intense for all Hayden teams. Hayden Synchronized
Skating Teams are very proud to have earned such high marks in each
division in which they competed. As the season winds down for synchronized
skating, this year, by far, has been a very successful one for these
dedicated and talented athletes. Lynn Benson and Deirdre Wilson coach
the Haydenettes and Ice Mates. Doreen Chapman Trunfio and Susan Finney
coach the Ice Cubes and Shirley Holdsworth and Deirdre Wilson coach
Esprit de Corps Adult and Masters Teams.
