Lexettes with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy 2009

Lexettes with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
On November 13, 2009 the Lexettes met the band and attended a "Sound Check" at one of their local performances. The Lexettes long program is skated to two of their songs. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is known as America's favorite contemporary little big band, jumpin' jazz retro swing recreating the sound of swing from the 1940s and 1950s.

The Lexettes are Hayden’s representative in U.S. Figure Skating’s Junior Division where the team is the reigning U.S. Bronze Medalists. The Junior Division, with skaters up to age of nineteen, is considered one of the elite levels of competitive figure skating. By virtue of the Lexettes’ winning the Bronze Medal, the team also captured a spot on TEAM USA, the international contingent of skaters and teams that represent the U.S. in international competitions.

In January 2009, the Lexettes travelled to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where they competed in USFS’ Junior World Team Qualifier Competition, placing third overall just one spot away from a trip to what is viewed by many as the equivalent of a World Championship at the Junior level.

During 2009, the team represented the U.S. in Rouen, France where they competed in the French Cup finishing 5th in their first-ever foray in an international competition. Their strong effort out of fifteen countries helped earn points towards the United States’ 2nd place in the Nations Cup.

The Lexettes roster includes skaters from five different states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island. All skaters have accomplished a great deal individually in freestyle, moves in the field, and dance, as well as synchronized skating. The Lexettes train eleven months of the year, to be ready for each competitive season. Together, these student-athletes have made a commitment to build a very strong team within the Hayden organization with the help of their dedicated coaches, parents, and supporters.

Like all the Hayden teams, the Lexettes give back to the community through their volunteer work. In the past they have volunteered at Hayden’s sponsor Atlas Fireworks’ Charity Golf Tournament, where they helped raise money for a local hospital. The Lexettes volunteered in the Pan Mass Challenge. The “PMC” is a 200-mile, 2-day charity bike ride from Sturbridge, MA, to Provincetown, MA on Cape Cod. The PMC raises money for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. In early September the Lexettes participated in A Race for The Cure, helping to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation.

The Lexettes are high school and college age skater-athletes who as a team want to help grow as individuals, improve as competitive skaters and lend their support to help make Synchronized Team Skating the next “Big Thing” in competitive figure skating.
