Synchronized Skating Team Mini Mates 2007-2008 Co-Coaches: Shawna Ludy, Erika Hoffman, and Kendra Flanagan Team Advisor: Saga Krantz The Mini Mates are the newest team of the Hayden Synchronized Skating Teams (HSST). Made up of skaters between the ages of 7 and 12, the Mini Mates will compete in the Juvenile division. They are a group of skater athletes from many communities who come together to fulfill their dream of skating on a team and competing. They dedicate their time to practicing this team sport as well as developing strong individual skills in preparation for team competition. Synchronized Skating is the fourth figure skating discipline sponsored by U.S. Figure Skating (USFS). "Synchro" as the sport is known, is attracting new fans and fast growth both internationally and in the U.S. In the U.S. alone there are now more than 400 competitive teams. U. S. Figure Skating has identified synchro as the fastest growing part of competitive figure skating. In Europe and Canada, synchro is already a popular spectator sport. The growth and popularity of the sport was underscored when the Haydenettes were awarded the 2004 Michelle Kwan Trophy by SKATING magazine as the most popular skaters in the magazine's annual readers' poll, a first for a Synchronized team.
